U.N. Climate Talks

USAID works with the State Department to support U.S. participation in international climate negotiations under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). See USAID activities in climate talks 2013.

USAID’s expertise informs U.S. positions, and our on-the-ground programs demonstrate U.S. commitment to taking meaningful global action on climate change.

The U.S. Fast Start Climate Finance Report provides an overview of all U.S. climate assistance, from USAID, the State Department, the Treasury Department, and other agencies, from 2010 through 2012.

The United States has participated in U.N. climate talks since the early 1990s. Today, negotiations to develop global policies and approaches to climate-related risks and challenges take place year round under the UNFCCC, with an annual Conference of the Parties, or COP, each November.
