40 Public Schools Join the Model Schools Network Program

The expansion of the MSN Program was officially announced today during a ceremony at the National Institute for Education and Training in Al Bireh in the West Bank.

Representatives from the MOEHE attended the ceremony, as well as the directors from schools in Bethlehem, Hebron, Jenin, Jericho, Jerusalem suburbs, Nablus and Ramallah.  Also present at the ceremony were representatives from USAID, several Palestinian academic and educational institutions, local and international NGOs, and the principals of the private schools already involved in the program.

USAID has recently allocated additional funding for increasing the number of schools involved in the MSN program.

MSN is focused on developing a school improvement network that will serve as a model for basic education in grades 1–9 in Palestine.  This includes introducing educational concepts, teaching approaches, techniques and resources that will measurably improve student learning outcomes at participating schools .

Teacher professional development is a major component of the program.  MSN aims to encourage high-quality instruction in schools through trainings for both teachers and administrators.  Enabling educators to utilize contemporary teaching methods and encouraging teachers to meet students’ learning needs are two key aspects of the MSN professional development.  Math, science and English teachers receive discipline specific training.

The program also focuses on developing school performance by promoting parent and community involvement. MSN offers a range of school activity training and support for schools, as well as a variety of school event programming. All these experiences contribute to an engaging, positive school atmosphere.

Finally, the MSN Program will support physical capacity development within all 57 participating schools.  This development will target the renovation of science and computer labs and provide resources for school libraries. Additionally, MSN will offer funding for the maintenance and renovation of playing fields to support physical and recreational activity for students and school communities.
