WEEK OF AUGUST 9, 2011

Internships get Palestinian Media Graduates on the Air and onto Pages: Recently, media graduates undertaking internships supported by USAID’s Youth Empowerment Program helped produce a series of 16 programs on youth issues which were shown on local television. Interns at USAID-supported media centers get hands on experience working on electronic and print media projects, and their best work is used by local media outlets. Interns also conduct media training for youth in marginalized communities and work with them to produce materials that address community issues.

USAID Rehabilitates Two Mother and Child Care Centers: USAID undertook two rehabilitation projects in the underdeveloped villages of Al Buweib and Beit Marsam. The two clinics are located in the Hebron Governorate. The rebuilt clinics will now be able to provide improved healthcare services to more than 1,000 people.

Palestinian School Counselors Ready to Guide Students on Career Paths: Working with the Ministry of Education, USAID’s education program helps prepare Palestinian students for their future careers. A career counseling program was introduced into public schools and 96 career counselors were trained to provide students with career guidance and to help them gain practical experience through workplace internships and other programs. So far, over 4,100 students have benefitted from the program.
