Yulia Rashitova (seated, center) completed computer and internet training at the Turkmenabat IATP center.
“I was hired thanks to the advanced skills I gained with USAID assistance. This is a new stage of my career development,” said Yulia Rashitova.

Until recently, Yulia Rashitova, a resident of the remote Turkmen town Turkmenabat, was unemployed. But thanks to the computer and Internet skills she gained at the USAID-funded Internet access and training center in her home town, the young woman has started her professional career.

After graduating from high school, Rashitova briefly earned a living as a waitress but she dreamed of a more skilled position. While she could not afford the university education, Rashitova was determined to further her education and career. Friends told her about the USAID-funded training center that offers a variety of computer-related courses in Turkmenabat, and Rashitova decided to use it as a stepping stone for her future. She signed up for an intensive training at the center, and studied computing, Internet searching, and graphic editing. Upon completion of the courses, she also attended a seminar on job searching and resume writing offered at the facility.

Armed with her new skills in computer technologies and job search tips, Rashitova began applying for positions that required computer competency. After a series of interviews she was offered an administrative assistant position with an international resources surveying company.

“It was not easy to find a good job with career opportunities without a degree or professional experience, but the USAID-funded training center helped me gain essential Internet and computer technology skills valuable for any office work,” said Rashitova. She said she is positive that strong computer and internet usage skills became the determining factor during her job interview with her new employer, as the bulk of her work will consist of online research and networking. “I was hired thanks to the advanced skills I gained with USAID assistance. This is a new stage of my life and my career development.”

Rashitova is just one of the growing group of unemployed citizens trained at the USAID-funded Internet Access and Training Center in Turkmenabat who now have expanded employment opportunities.
