AFTER - The health clinic reopened after USAID sponsored repairs to the floor and walls, provided furniture and heating stoves, and restored the building’s electrical wiring. The clinic was now repaired, repainted, and ready to go!
In 2005, Romania fell victim to a series of devastating floods. Cosmesti Vale, a village in Galati county, was one of the areas most affected by the floods. Along with road, bridges, and many other buildings, the village’s only health clinic was severely damaged when the Siret River flooded the entire village. This left families without access to health care.
Anyone who needed medical care would have to travel to the nearest city through flood-damaged and dangerous roads.
USAID launched a flood recovery program to assist families, farmers, and businesses in flood-affected regions recover. The program responded to the village’s needs, helping the 1300 residents regain access to vital medical services. The USAID program sponsored repairs for the building’s floor and walls, provided furniture and heating stoves, and restored the building’s electrical wiring.
