Highlights of the Week
On September 6, Rwanda will begin the sixth round of Indoor Residual Spraying aiming for the highest transmission zones in selected sectors of the country. 295,000 structures are targeted for spraying, which will effect upwards of over a million people. IRS is the application of insecticide to the interior walls of houses and other structures, killing mosquitoes as they rest on walls and remains effective for 3-6 months. The IRS campaign in Rwanda is a joint US Government and Government of Rwanda initiative and is part of the US President’s Malaria Initiative (PMI).
