Subject: NOMINATION OF USAID ADMINISTRATOR

I am extremely pleased to inform you that President Obama has nominated Dr. Rajiv Shah as USAID Administrator. I know that everyone at USAID joins me in welcoming the nomination of Dr. Shah to lead us in carrying out our development and humanitarian mission.

Please read the White House's statement announcing the nomination, as well as Secretary Clinton's release regarding Dr. Shah's candidacy.

We will be working closely with our colleagues from the White House, the Department of State, and the Congress as we move forward. I want to thank our staff once again for the important work you do each day to carry out our Agency's important mission. I ask for your continued dedication, hard work, and cooperation as we move to the next phase of our transition process.

The American people, through the U.S. Agency for International Development, have provided economic and humanitarian assistance worldwide for nearly 50 years.
