Jon C. Brause, USAID’s deputy assistant administrator in the Bureau for Democracy, Conflict and Humanitarian Assistance, was recently named to a group that provides advice to the United Nations Central Emergency Relief Fund (CERF).

CERF, created in December 2005, is charged with speeding up relief operations in emergencies, financing those that are under-funded and making funds available quickly. The fund, which is managed by the U.N.’s undersecretary for humanitarian affairs, has allocated nearly $1.3 billion for humanitarian assistance to nearly 70 countries, according to the U.N.

Brause will be part of the fund’s 16-member advisory panel, which includes representatives from government, humanitarian NGOs, and academia. Seven new members were named in October.

The other new members are: Luz Amanda Pulido, director of Colombia’s Risk Management Department in the Ministry of the Interior and Justice; Satu Helinä Lassila, senior adviser for Finland’s Humanitarian Assistance Unit in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Silvano Langa, senior adviser in Mozambique’s Ministry of State Administration; Janina Ochojska, founder and head of Poland’s Polska Akcja Humanitarna; Brig. Gen. Abdullah Muhammad Alsuwedi, the general manager of Qatar’s Directorate of Civil Defense; and Elena Madrazo, secretary-general of Spain’s Agency for International Aid and Development (AECID).
