Not long after the devastating rains ceased in Pakistan, a fifth of the country was inundated with water, and millions of lives disrupted. Since the floods, USAID and the U.S. government have responded with nearly $600 million in assistance, directly helping millions of Pakistanis with shelter, food, clean water, agricultural assistance, and health care. All the while, USAID has continued to work closely with the Pakistani government to ensure that activities reflect mutual priorities and are responsive to the most urgent needs while building government capacity to pursue economic and political reforms.
