Project Description

This project supports the largest national tuberculosis (TB) survey ever undertaken in Pakistan. Survey results will determine the burden of TB in the population and provide critical data for program planning, treatment, service delivery, monitoring, and research. The project also seeks to increase commitment to support the Directly Observed Therapy/Short Course (DOTS) program, scale up TB infection control measures, and increase coordination of the National TB Control Program with public and private sectors.

Results To Date

• Training provided to field surveillance teams and program mangers
• National and provincial planning approaches strengthened
• Infection control, drug management, and training standards and guidelines established
• National TB Strategic Plan, 2010-2015, developed, with program components and priorities aligned with the new global STOP TB strategy
• Management and monitoring of multi-drug resistant TB strengthened
• Senior and middle management staff at the federal and provincial levels of TB program trained
• Laboratory diagnostics and management improved
• Supply chain and drug management strengthened
