Project Description
This project supports construction of a new women's hostel at the Forman Christian College (FCC) in Lahore. The women's hostel will provide 360 additional beds (for a total of 560 hostel spaces for women), permitting the university to house, and therefore to educate, a greater number of female students from target areas of southern Punjab, northern Sindh, FATA, Baluchistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The hostel is designed as a mulit-story building with all the modern facilities such as serving areas, internet, laundry room, and fitness center.
FCC was founded in 1864 by American missionaries. The college was upgraded to university in 2004. Since the university became coeducational in 2004, the number of female students has grown to a current population of 923, representing 31% of the student body. FCC has since been struggling to provide on-campus housing for female students from outside of Lahore and thus could not accept more female students, especially in graduate programs, without expanding residential capacity.
