Project Description

This program works to strengthen and broaden cooperation between the United States and Pakistan in science and technology. Both countries contribute funding to the program, which supports joint projects in areas of mutual interest, including agriculture, water, and health. In addition, projects supported through the program enhance Pakistan's ability to address national development needs in various sectors. In particular, the project seeks to improve the quality, relevance, and capacity of research and education at Pakistani institutions of higher education in science and technical fields; enhance the capacity of public and private science institutions in Pakistan to support industry competitiveness; and increase the adoption of science and technology to improve the well-being of ordinary Pakistani people. The project is also introducing new management practices and procedures and increasing the number of students, staff, and faculty involved in science and technology research.




Results To Date

• 46 research projects supported through a collaborative and transparent peer-review process
• Capacity building provided and research advanced at 31 Pakistani universities and institutions in collaboration with 41 U.S. institutions
• Research and technical training provided to 6,300 Pakistanis in a wide range of development-related research and practical fields
• 300 scholarly papers published, presented, or submitted
• Degrees awarded to 40 students, with an additional 86 enrolled as of March 2011
• 32 new courses in the fields of natural, biological, environmental, and medical sciences introduced at Pakistani universities
