Cross-Cutting Themes

A government that is responsive and accountable to citizens' needs and supportive of women's development is critical to Pakistan's future. USAID integrates a concern for good governance and gender equality into each of its five programmatic areas: energy, economic growth, stabilization, education, and health. Our objectives are to encourage public-sector accountability and transparency, develop civil society's ability to act as a partner with government, and promote women's access to employment, education, health care, and other key resources. USAID monitors these cross-cutting themes in each program with a variety of well-developed indicators. We also have several targeted programs designed to foster democratic institutions and women's development.
