Protecting Children in Moldova from Family Separation, Violence, Abuse, Neglect & Exploitation

Implementing Partner: EveryChild Moldova

Funding Period: August 2010 – July 2013

Amount: $2,500,000

Purpose: Enable the social protection system to comprehensively address the needs of vulnerable children and their families in Moldova

Objectives

  • Families and communities reduce child abuse, exploitation, and neglect
    • Ensure that 400 identified families have knowledge and skills on positive parenting, peaceful conflict resolution, and family resilience
    • Train 80 community advocates on knowledge and skills to mobilize and support the community around promoting child well-being
    • Establish 20 communities with child protection response
    • Ensure that children, families, and communities know which services are available and how to access them
  • Children access basic services and are supported by a comprehensive child protection response system
    • Expand the existing child protection network to include all relevant stakeholders
    • Establish referral and case management systems
    • Train service providers in basic child protection and provision of child-friendly services
    • Train case managers on steps and elements of case management

The project works at the national level supporting ministries to strengthen the national child protection systems to prevent family separation and provide appropriate care and protection for children without parental care. The project builds the capacity of line ministries to provide support to local authorities to ensure the effective implementation of national childcare and child protection policies. The project helps ministries develop a common vision for childcare reform. It also strengthens local capacities to strategically plan appropriate care and protection. It does so by supporting the development of an integrated system of social services for children and families, providing practical support to put the services in place, and improving capacity to evaluate the impact of these services
