|
Through the USAID-funded Care and Protection of Children in Countries Affected
by Crisis (CPC), Columbia University is testing methodologies for identifying
critical child-care and protection needs, and compiling data on programs that
address those needs. Researchers develop criteria for gauging the effectiveness
of interventions with attention to the local in-country definitions of childrens’ well-being and ability to function. Information gathered from those activities
is then used to recommend best practices for designing, evaluating, and implementing
child-focused programs. Through this initiative, the university seeks to address
challenges that projects face during an implementation process, including scalability,
community empowerment, gender equity, measurable results, human capacity building,
and sustainability.
