Presidential Initiative to End Hunger in Africa (IEHA)
IEHA aims to increase agricultural income and meet the United Nations Millennium Development Goal of reducing by half the number of people suffering from hunger by 2015. Launched in 2002, IEHA focuses on building an African-led partnership to cut hunger and poverty through agricultural investment. IEHA pays special attention to small-scale farmers. USAID is harmonizing its efforts with IEHA to support the African Union-led Comprehensive African Agricultural Development Program (CAADP) to reach its goal of boosting economic growth in Africa through agricultural development. IEHA relies on its partners from African governments, regional organizations, multilateral development institutions, the private sector, academia and the private voluntary organization community to find science and technology-based solutions to increasing agricultural productivity and reducing vulnerabilities. In conjunction with IEHA, USAID works on market access and trade projects, infrastructure improvements and developing safety nets for especially vulnerable populations.
