Education
Food for Peace supports Food for Education activities that seek to increase school enrollment and attendance as part of a broader effort that addresses the determinants of food insecurity in vulnerable populations. Food for Education programs provide food through schools or take-home rations as an incentive for parents and caregivers to send children to school. U.S. Title II food aid is provided to schools in developing countries in combination with improvements in school infrastructure and curricula development to ensure that food is used to its maximum benefit. Food for Education programs can have a long-term impact on food security by enhancing productivity, increasing incomes and improving health and nutrition. Female education is a vital measure of development, and Food for Education activities underscore the importance of female school participation.
