Map of Southern Africa

Starting in January 2009, heavy rains caused widespread flooding in southern and eastern Angola and northern and northeastern Namibia.  As of April 16, the floods had affected more than 202,000 people in Angola and more than 350,000 people in Namibia, according to the U.N. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.  In response, USAID/OFDA funded the provision of emergency relief commodities, shelter materials, and water, sanitation, and hygiene support to benefit flood-affected populations.
