Regional Team: EMCA

Brief Description:
OFDA and its implementing partners continue to prioritize humanitarian assistance for internally displaced persons (IDPs) throughout Iraq. OFDA emergency response programs focus on providing assistance to populations suddenly displaced due to conflict, civil strife, and natural disaster. In FY 2005 and 2006, OFDA is providing more than $70 million to support humanitarian needs in Iraq, including improving IDPs' access to safe drinking water and adequate sanitation facilities, establishing mobile medical units, providing income-generation opportunities, and distributing humanitarian relief commodities to vulnerable IDP populations.
