Evidence-based Interventions for Major Causes of Maternal Mortality: USAID advances essential, evidence-based technical elements in maternal newborn programs that are feasible in low resource environments. Magnesium sulfate, eclampsia 12%, oxycontin and manual compression and severe bleeding 24%, iron supplements and indirect costs 20%, other direct causes 8%, obstructed labor 8%, infection 15%, family planning and postabortion care 13%.

*Other direct causes include: ectopic pregnancy, embolism, anesthesia-related
*Indirect causes include: anemia, malaria, heart disease
