    On World AIDS Day, we committed to build upon our successes and continue to make smart investments that will ultimately save and improve the lives of millions. USAID along with PEPFAR join in the shared responsibility in the fight against HIV/AIDS. We pay tribute to those affected and infected with HIV/AIDS worldwide.

  • The 16 Days Campaign to End Violence against Women – 11/25/10-12/10/10
    From November 25 to December 10, USAID amplified efforts to bring much-needed attention to the reality of millions of women around the world who are victims of violence and abuse. The 16 Days Campaign provided us with an opportunity to share with you what USAID is doing on behalf of the American people to promote equal rights and end violence against women around the world.

  • Millennium Development Goals Summit – 09/20/10 - 09/22/10
    The Millennium Development Goals are eight international development goals that all 192 United Nations member states and at least 23 international organizations have agreed to achieve by the year 2015. With only five years left until the 2015 deadline to achieve the MDGs, U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon called on world leaders to attend a summit in New York that was held on September 20–22, 2010, to accelerate progress toward the MDGs.

  • 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence – November 25-December 10, 2009
    The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence campaign provides a forum for speaking up for support services for survivors, calling for greater prevention efforts, pressing for legal and judicial reform, and using international human rights instruments to address the issue.

  • World AIDS Day 2009 – 12/01/09
    On World AIDS Day, we renewed our commitment to work together in the fight against HIV/AIDS. As a major partner in the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), USAID is fully committed to continue providing prevention, care, and treatment services to those in need.

  • World Pneumonia Day – 11/2/09
    World Pneumonia Day was the first of its kind to focus solely on pneumonia, which kills more children than any other disease, despite the fact that life-saving interventions are available to protect and treat children from the disease.

  • Global Handwashing Day – 10/15/09
    Handwashing with soap is the single most cost-effective health intervention. Promoting this practice tops the international hygiene agenda this year with the second annual Global Handwashing Day.

  • World Contraception Day – 09/26/09
    On September 26, 2009, World Contraception Day helped to shine a light on the growing need for contraception awareness and education regarding reproductive and sexual health.

  • Country Ownership Strategies: Leadership Forum on Health Information Systems – August 10-12, 2009
    Leaders representing the stakeholders of national Health Information Systems (HIS) from seven countries in East Africa met in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from August 10-12, 2009. The goals of this event were to understand the current status and challenges of country information systems and to create a common vision for an effective national HIS.

  • World Population Day – 07/11/09
    On July 11, USAID joined the global community in celebration of World Population Day’s 20th anniversary to highlight the importance of family planning in the lives of women, communities, and the world.

  • Day of the African Child – 06/16/09
    More than 5 million children a year are projected to die of largely preventable and treatable causes. In commemoration of the Day of the African Child, USAID released a report titled Two Decades of Progress: USAID’s Child Survival and Maternal Health Program [PDF, 3.9MB].

  • World Environment Day 2009 – 06/05/09
    June 5, 2009, was World Environment Day. This year’s theme was “Your Planet Needs You! Unite to Combat Climate Change.” Climate change will exacerbate a variety of global health threats in the 21st century. Learn how USAID is working to promote environmental health.

    On the 20th global observance of World AIDS Day, we celebrated life. In countless communities around the world, through partnerships with the American people, courageous individuals in nations devastated by HIV/AIDS are choosing life, saving the lives of their fellow countrymen and women, and creating hope for a future free of HIV/AIDS.

    Taking place in Tagaytay City, Philippines, the event theme is Scaling Up Population, Health, and Environment (PHE). Field practitioners, policymakers, researchers, educators, media, community leaders, and advocates who want to explore strategies and opportunities for advancing PHE integration or for communicating on these complex development topics are invited to participate. 2007

  • 16 Days of Activism - Eliminating Gender Violence - November 25-December 10, 2007
    Beginning on the International Day of Eliminating Violence Against Women, encompassing World AIDS Day on December 1, and ending on International Human Rights Day, 16 Days of Activism raises awareness about the violence that women and girls face in our global communities as a result of their unequal status in society and the intersection of violence and public health and development obstacles.
  • World Population Day - 07/11/07

  • Africa Malaria Day - 04/25/07
