HIV/AIDS, Europe and Eurasia
In 2008, approximately 1.5 million people in the region are living with HIV/AIDS, a 66 percent increase from 900,000 living with HIV/AIDS in 2001. HIV prevalence in the region is on the rise, with severe and growing epidemics in Ukraine and Russia. USAID has HIV/AIDS programs in 13 countries in Europe and Eurasia, and has three regional programs.
