USAID:
HIV/AIDS, Asia
More than 4.7 million people in Asia
were living with HIV/AIDS at the end of
2008. HIV/AIDS prevalence is low compared to other regions,
but individual Asian countries are experiencing explosive
nationwide or localized epidemics fueled by high-risk behavior.
High levels of population mobility also contribute to HIV
vulnerability in this region. USAID is implementing HIV/AIDS
programs in nine countries in Asia and the Near East, plus
a regional program that addresses cross-border issues and
supports HIV/AIDS activities in countries where USAID does
not have a mission.
