USAID’s new “Vocational Training and Education for Clean Energy” (VOC TEC) program aims to improve sustainability of renewable energy infrastructure in developing countries by increasing awareness, knowledge and capacity of local stakeholders to operate and maintain decentralized clean energy systems. The program is implemented by Arizona State University, Appalachian State University, and Green Empowerment, and focuses on solar, wind, and micro-hydro energy systems.

The Regional Development Mission for Asia (USAID/RDMA) headquarters in Bangkok is the first overseas USAID facility to win a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification for its commercial interior. The facility’s lighting and air handling systems keep energy consumption to a minimum. Carpeting and furnishings throughout the offices are made with recycled materials and local resources were used to help minimize the carbon footprint associated with importing such goods.
