USAID/ Bangladesh places special emphasis on gender across all programs and within the mission. Its objectives include: improving the quality of basic education with an emphasis on educating girls; initiating population and health activities that are improving family health by slowing the rate of population growth, improving child health and nutrition, and reducing vulnerability to disease; strengthening democracy and governance by improving the treatment of women and children through human rights promotion and support of NGOs; and, anti-trafficking efforts to aid the prevention and prosecution of trafficking and in services provided to victims of trafficking.

USAID has been making special efforts to involve women and men in its environment activities, incorporating their participation into efforts to improve natural resources management; taking gender into consideration in its energy sector; and taking account of gender dimensions to food security and disaster issues.
