Country Snapshot: Mali and MEASURE

Photo of a woman holding a baby.

In many African countries, the public knows very little about reproductive health including HIV/AIDS and female genital cutting. The government is often unable or unwilling to introduce new policies to deal with these problems.

Recently, the MEASURE project helped networks of newspaper and radio editors to expand coverage of key reproductive health issues in West Africa. In 2001, Mali’s network held its first national seminar on “AIDS and Young People” attended by over 60 journalists, Ministry of Health officials, experts, donors, and youth peer educators.
