Country Snapshot: Benin and International Women’s Day

Photo of two women holding awards.

To celebrate International Women’s Day on March 8, 2003, women’s groups in Allada, Abomey and Covè were honored at a ceremony where they were given equipment to process agricultural products.

The NGO network G/PIFED honored female candidates who ran for election in December 2002, thereby encouraging other women to follow their example and building awareness of the advantages of women’s participation in the management of public affairs.
