 Jordan Gender Assessment [for the Sustainable Achievement of Business Expansion and Quality] 01/18/2007 (548KB)
The assessment analyzed each of the four components under the Sustainable Achievement of Business Expansion and Quality (SABEQ) project in Jordan to identify opportunities to integrate gender systemically. Through the analysis, it became apparent that achievement of SABEQ's principal goals is strongly linked to the extent to which women are empowered to participate in the economy and contribute to economic growth. As such, the assessment was able to highlight opportunities for SABEQ to integrate gender throughout project activities as a means of promoting women's entry into the economy as labor entrants and business owners.
 Women's Economic Activities in Jordan: Research Findings on Women's Participation in Microenterprise, Agriculture, and the Formal Sector 07/01/1999 (5.6MB)
To close some of the information gaps regarding women's activities in microenterprise in the informal and formal sectors and more comfortably direct its investment to support overall economic growth, USAID invited the WIDTECH Project to assist in conducting a data-based research study. The key objectives of this study are to:
- Determine the nature and extent of Jordanian women's participation in the labor force as owners, operators, and employees of microenterprises;
- Analyze gender-based constraints to forming and expanding enterprises;
- Identify growth-oriented subsectors in which women have the greatest opportunities to expand their enterprises;
- Recommend specific interventions that USAID/Jordan can implement to help reduce gender-based constraints and support the growth of sustainable businesses for both male and female entrepreneurs in the microenterprise sector; and
- Determine, if possible, the nature and extent of women's participation in a broader range of economic activities.
