The Power to Lead Alliance

Power to Lead was a three-year alliance with CARE to promote leadership in girls aged 10-14 in vulnerable communities in Egypt, Honduras, India, Malawi, Tanzania, and Yemen. Power to Lead concluded in September 2011.

Below is a set of videos produced by CARE, two on India produced under Power to Lead and three on Egypt produced under Innovations through Sports: Promoting Leaders, Empowering Youth. These videos illustrate girls leadership and empowerment through their involvement in extracurricular activities and sports in school.

Empowering Women's Leadership in Conflict Resolution in Guatemala

  • Empowering Women's Leadership in Conflict Resolution is a two-year project implemented by Mercy Corps to assist indigenous men and women in four municipalities in the Alta Verapaz Department of Guatemala to address the gender based barriers to justice, enhance women's leadership, and help government agencies become more responsive to women's rights and needs. The project also augments the responsiveness and transparency of governance by increasing women's awareness of, and access to, conflict resolution mechanisms. More information >

Empowering Women's Leadership in the Disaster Recovery Efforts in Haiti

  • Women Empowered to Lead and Advocate for Development (WE-LEAD) is a two-year project implemented by Heartland Alliance and its partners MADRE and KOFAVIV to strengthen emerging women leaders to foster and sustain a vibrant and multi-generational women's movement in Haiti. The project supports women's leadership development, civic participation, and engagement in advocacy through a range of training and capacity-building activities to directly reach 680 women throughout all departments and indirectly impact thousands more. The project taps into the invaluable local knowledge of grassroots women and strengthens their capacity to lobby for increased political participation and for the integration of gender issues throughout all sectors of reconstruction and development. Empowering Women Through Integrated Agriculture in Liberia

  • Integrated Agriculture for Women's Empowerment in Liberia is a two-year project implemented by Samaritan's Purse providing leadership and entrepreneurial opportunities for women in addressing household food security and access to control of income and assets. The project improves food security and entrepreneurial opportunities for 1,000 women and 500 men in Lofa County, Liberia using a skills training and value chain approach to integrated lowland rice, livestock, and aquaculture production. Activities involve training smallholder farmers in literacy and agribusiness and graduating farmers from basic skills to producer groups and associations. Integrated farming and irrigated lowland rice production enhances natural resource management, reduces deforestation strains on upland areas, and improves land, water, and waste management. Empowering Women's Leadership in Civic Leadership & Journalism in Senegal

  • Empowering Women's Leadership in Civic Leadership and Journalism is a two-year project implemented by World Education, Inc. in Senegal to strengthen women's media presence and voice to develop and stimulate women's leadership roles at the local level. World Education is working with its partners, ARLS and INFORMORAC among others, in 13 rural communities in the regions of Thiès and Diourbel. Activities provide opportunities for women to acquire the knowledge, skills, and confidence to become voices and leaders in the priority gender themes affecting their communities. The project offers an opportunity to build local leadership among women. Information among women and women's groups will be shared using radio as the medium. More information >
