PVC-ASHA: Applications for FY 2005 Grant Awards

Applications for FY 2005 grant awards under the American Schools and Hospitals Abroad (ASHA) program closed on June 30, 2004. Demand for PVC-ASHA funding continues to increase over previous years. Seventy six (76) applications were received this year compared to fifty seven last year, an increase of one third (33 1/3%). Applications were received from 70 United States Organizations (USOs), sponsoring a total of 76 Overseas Institutions (OSIs). Of the 70 USOs, 25 are new applicants. Twenty eight (28) new requests were received from OSIs. These new requests are defined as OSIs that have never received a grant under the ASHA program. It should also be noted that the cumulative requests for assistance under the ASHA program continues to exceed substantially the amount of funds allocated yearly to the ASHA program. The 76 OSIs requesting ASHA funding are located in 39 countries, representing 6 geographic regions.
