Participants at Youth Conference in Morocco

Success Stories

USAID organized a regional youth conference, titled "Our Voices, Our Communities: Emerging Roles for Arab Youth in Development", that convened youth, civil society representatives, policy experts, and donor organizations from November 14-17, 2011 in Morocco. Recommendations from the conference were shared with the donor community, and include the need to support potential funding sources for entrepreneurship activities in the MENA region by identifying funding bodies and linking these sources with young entrepreneurs. Welcome to USAID’s website for the Middle East and North Africa. Through regional and trans-boundary programs, USAID seeks to advance peace and prosperity for the citizens of the region. Our programs empower youth, address the culture and governance of water, and promote a culture of democracy. Partnerships with businesses and local organizations enhance these efforts with additional expertise and resources.

The Middle East is home to 10% of the world’s people, but just 1% of the world’s water. OMEP helps improve management of water resources by improving access to regional water data.

OMEP water portfolio featured in Global Waters - 3/25/2012

OMEP's regional water programs were recently highlighted in USAID's publication Global Waters in an issue dedicated to water and food security. The article highlights OMEP's Monitoring Agriculture and Water Resources Development (MAWRD) and Water Information System Platforms (WISP) programs. In the article, OMEP Regional Water Advisor Mark Peters commented: "These programs demonstrate the importance of science and technology in water resources decision-making. Ideally, data-driven decision making helps us make optimal use of water resources and mitigate against water related conflict."

RPCD Publishes Annotated Bibliography Series - 3/25/2012

The USAID-funded Regional Partnership on Culture and Development (RPCD) works to improve information sharing for development in the Middle East North Africa (MENA) region. To help you stay on top of the most relevant development research being done by diverse experts, we publish an Annotated Bibliography Series. The ABS is a bi-annual publication that provides summaries and sources of the best recent articles on Youth, Democracy and Governance, and Natural Resources Management in the MENA region. This is one of RPCD's many initiatives to share information and link researchers in this complex and dynamic corner of the globe.
