LOCATION: 1 vacancy - Washington, DC

JOB SUMMARY: The Office of Inspector General (OIG) is an independent organization that is responsible for the audit, investigation, and fraud control activities relating to the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) worldwide programs and operations. We are interested in individuals who are committed to superior service and who can help us continue to meet these high standards. We are seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual to provide operational support and technical advice to employees and customers of the OIG.

The incumbent of this position will serve as an intern in the Student Temporary Employment Program. This program provides flexible temporary employment that enables students to earn a salary while continuing their studies. Employment can range from summer jobs to positions that can last for as long as you are a student.

  • Major Duties:

    This position is located in the USAID/OIG, Human Capital Division. The incumbent receives assignments from the Human Resources Assistant/Specialists and works under the supervision of the Human Resources Director. This position involves the performance of a variety of general clerical and personnel clerical tasks in support of Division activities.

    Assists the Human Resources Assistant with the Agency's Job Vacancy Telephone Line. Answers and responds to job line inquiries, provides information to the public regarding vacant positions, and sends copies of vacancy announcements and other requested information to potential applicants.

    Provides basic information, brochures, applications, and general assistance to employees in the areas of health benefits, life insurance, retirements, thrift savings plan, performance appraisals, and leave related issues such as the Voluntary Leave Transfer Program and the Family Friendly Leave Act. May assist employees in preparing paperwork related to human resources actions and reviewing forms for completeness and accuracy.

    Maintains established office files and records. May be required to assist in the preparation of various reports associated with the Human Capital Division. Utilizes a personal computer to type memoranda, letters, reports, and charts.

    Duplicates, collates, and staples packages of information and sends material to its destination via mail, fax, Federal Express, or courier service.

    Qualifications:

    APPLICANTS MUST MEET THE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS OF THE OFFICE OF PERSONNEL MANAGEMENT'S QUALIFICATION STANDARDS HANDBOOK.

    For the GS-3 level: applicants must have one academic year above high school and/or six months of general work experience.

    For the GS-4 level: applicants must have two academic years above high school or associate's degree and/or one year of general work experience.

    For the GS-5: applicants must have four academic years above high school or 1 year equivalent to at least GS-4 in the Federal Government.One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school.

    General experience is defined as progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled.

    Students are eligible for the Student Temporary Employment Program if they are:

    >   at least 16 years of age at the time of appointment;

    >   a U.S. Citizen;

    >   enrolled or accepted for enrollment as a degree seeking student and taking at least a half-time academic/vocational/ or technical      course load in an accredited high school, technical, or vocational school, 2 year or 4 year college or university, graduate or      professional school;

    >   in good academic standing.

    One (1) year of specialized experience which is in or directly related to the line of work of the position to be filled and has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. To be creditable, this experience must have been at least equivalent to the next lower grade level in Federal Service.

    You must be a U.S. citizen to qualify for this position.

    You must submit to a drug test and receive a negative drug test before you can be appointed into this position.

    In order to qualify for this position, you must possess a Secret security clearance.

    You must be able to type at least 40 words per minute. You can self-certify by submitting a statement that you can type this speed.

    How You Will Be Evaluated:

    Employment in the Student Temporary Employment Program is a non-competitive appointment. There is no testing, rating, or ranking of applicants for this program. Eligibility for appointment is based on the applicant's meeting the basic qualification requirements for the position.

    Applicants should have the ability to handle multiple tasks and complete projects under tight deadlines. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are a must. Training or experience in human resources or business management is desirable but not required.
