Howard Ike Hendershot is the Assistant Inspector General for Investigations (AIG/I) for the U.S. Agency for International Development, Office of Inspector General (USAID/OIG). As the AIG/I, Hendershot reports to the Deputy Inspector General, and is responsible for supervising all investigative activities and operational procedures relating to the efficiency and effectiveness of foreign assistance programs.
From February 2007 to May 2010, Hendershot served as USAID/OIG Deputy Assistant Inspector General for Investigations. Before joining USAID/OIG, Hendershot was Assistant Vice President and Senior Program Manager with Science Applications International Corporation for over four and a half years. Additionally, he was Director of Special Programs, in the Office of Security Management and Safeguards with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration from 2001 to 2002.
Hendershot has over twenty-five years with the United States Secret Service as a Special Agent in Charge. From 1998 to 1999, he served as Deputy Special Agent in Charge of the Presidential Protective Division in the U.S. Secret Service and was responsible for all tactical protection provided for the President.
From 1988 to 1998, Hendershot served as a Special Agent in Charge of an international field office and in other management roles. He was responsible for the coordination and management of complex domestic and international criminal investigations including undercover operations, major task force operations, organized crime, and protective intelligence cases. He has also conducted numerous lead, site, logistical, and technical security advance preparations for the President, Vice President, First Lady, and foreign heads of state and government during his Secret Service career.
Hendershot holds a Bachelor of Science in the Administration of Criminal Justice from American University in Washington, D.C.
