On December 6, USAID, in partnership with Partners of the Americas and in collaboration with Embassy Paramaribo, launched the A Ganar program that will provide training to over 500 vulnerable youth requiring a second-chance to become employed or to set up a business.

The youth will receive support in life skills development, technical and vocational training, internships and assistance with job placement. Two NGO's have been initially selected to start training in Paramaribo. In 2012 the program will be expanded to other areas of Paramaribo as well as to the interior of the country.

On December 15, the A Ganar program was launched in Dominica with the expectation that 225 youth will receive training under the A Ganar program. Two NGO's have been selected to carry out training which shall include youth who are also incarcerated.
