Maternal and Child Health

The Maternal and Child Health program continues to focus on improving the health of children under five in Madagascar. Diarrheal disease and malaria are the primary causes of death for children under five years of age; however, acute respiratory infections and newborn deaths also contribute.

Activities focus on strengthening essential nutrition; emphasizing community based health outreach; and expanding assistance for maternal and newborn care including training of health workers for safe delivery, expanding availability of emergency obstetric care, and improving neonatal care services, immunization, and preventive treatment of malaria in pregnant women.

Deworming festival 2008

We tackle chronic malnutrition on every front. These boys are taking deworming tablets to kill common parasites that inhibit proper digestion and the ability to absorb nutrients.
