Developing Rehabilitation Assistance to Schools and Teacher Improvement(MS Word, 72kb)
D-RASATI incorporates the USAID FORWARD assistance reform agenda that allows host governments to “own” and “lead” development activities, and operates through a joint committee co-chaired by USAID and representatives of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education under the Government of Lebanon. This co-leadership organizational arrangement bolsters host-country ownership and provides a stronger promise for the long term sustainability of USAID’s interventions. D-RASATI addresses public education concerns in schools across regional and confessional lines by focusing on improving the learning environment in Lebanese public schools through infrastructure rehabilitation and equipment provision; increasing learning opportunities through in-service teacher training and extra-curricular activities; and Increasing community engagement in schools.
Wastewater Systems for Small Villages(MS Word, 125kb)
In cooperation with municipalities in the Bekaa, the program builds small wastewater treatment systems to protect the upper Litani River Basin and the health of local communities. Construction of two plants, in Aitanit and Fourzol, has been completed. These facilities have started initial operations. Construction of the third facility, at Ablah, is underway. These three facilities will ultimately treat 8,000 cubic meters of domestic wastewater that is being directly dumped into the Litani River. Approximately 43,000 people in eight villages will benefit from improved health conditions.
Litani River Basin Management Support(MS Word, 112kb)
The program supports improved, more efficient and sustainable water resource management in the Litani River Basin by providing technical support to the Litani River Authority, procuring specialized equipment, and implementing limited scale infrastructure activities. It will assist the Litani River Authority (LRA) transform into a River Basin Agency.
Lebanon Water and Wastewater Sector Support(MS Word, 94kb)
In cooperation with the Ministry of Energy and Water, the program is assisting Lebanon’s four Water Establishments advance towards financial and operational sustainability.
