Electoral Process in Lebanon(MS Word, 427kb)

USAID supports the electoral process in Lebanon through assistance by the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) and the National Democratic Institute (NDI).  While IFES has traditionally worked with the Lebanese government, NDI works to strengthen the capacity of civil society organizations to advocate for electoral reform and promote civic engagement, as well as improve the effectiveness of women municipal councilors and enhance their role in increasing the overall political participation of Lebanese women.  


Technical Support for Fiscal Transparency(MS Word, 88kb)

USAID has entered into a Participating Agency Service Agreement with the U.S. Department of Treasury.   The U.S. Department of Treasury is providing a technical advisor to support the Director General of the Ministry of Finance, the Head of the Directorate of Public Accounting and other Government of Lebanon staff.


USAID's Office of Transition Initiatives Lebanon Project(MS Word, 757kb)

USAID’s Office of Transition Initiatives (OTI) launched its program in Lebanon to promote peace and stability.  The Lebanon Civic Support Initiative goal (LCSI) aims to empower youth to be active and independent citizens.  OTI works primarily at the community level and supports youth-led initiatives through short term, in-kind grants and technical assistance.   


Strengthening the Lebanese Parliament through Development of a Legislative Resource Center in Lebanon(MS Word, 93kb)

In collaboration with the Lebanese Parliament, the program is building capacity of professional committee staff and researchers in legislative research and policy analysis, and committee operations to support members of parliament practice their legislative and oversight roles.  The program is also assisting the parliamentary administration in establishing a new entitya regional Center for Parliamentary Training and Legislative Studies – being supported by the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (AIPU) and other funders to provide training and resources both internally to the Lebanese Parliament and to other visiting Arab parliamentary delegations.

 

 

Citizens for Change in Lebanon(MS Word, 73kb)

The program will promote a culture of citizenship and alternative, issue-based political activism.  It will strengthen civil society's ability to act as a catalyst for change through civic advocacy and participation.
