Municipalities Receive Training on Economic Development

September 17, 2008

Within the context of USAID’s Empowering Municipalities through Local Economic Development (EMLED) program, seventy municipal officials attended two-day training sessions on economic development. Subjects included strategic planning, project development and business planning. The training mainly focused on the roles of municipal governments, civil society organizations, youth and women groups, local banks and private sector businesses in developing strategic plans for investment, policies and incentive systems for sustainable local economic development.

This activity is an integral part of an innovative array of capacity building services that the EMLED program is designed to deliver to 115 rural municipalities and their communities throughout Lebanon. The EMLED program is implemented by Relief International with USAID funding for $7 million over three years.
