DESCRIPTION:
The USAID supported Health Policy Initiative aims to foster an enabling environment for health, particularly family planning/reproductive health (FP/RH), HIV/AIDS, and maternal health. With a focus on dialogue and implementation, the project helps countries translate policies into effective programs and services on the ground, including overcoming operational policy barriers. HPP aims to develop and integrate capacity-building plans that support sustainable policy analysis, advocacy, and evidence-based decision-making. It supports the national institutions and strengthens their capacity to develop institutional advocacy plans and strategies. HPP also focuses on building capacity of partner staff in USAID priority states’ for developing action plans and putting plans into practice. HPP has organized roundtables in Hyderabad and New Delhi with private sector companies, NGOs, and key stakeholders to share a costing tool. It also organized roundtables on the impact of birth spacing in Uttar Pradesh and at the national level with key stakeholders. The project staff documented lessons learned from the vouchers scheme and undertook review of Government of Uttarakhand (GOUK) State Health and Population Policy using the Policy Implementation Assessment Tool. It also reviewed Uttarakhand’s health and population policy.
