DESCRIPTION:
The Revised National TB Control Program has scaled-up its capacity to diagnose and treat MDR TB patients. It also aims to initiate infection control measures in the facilities, and expand the TB HIV collaborative activities to the entire country. The program requires high-quality technical expertise for these specialized activities. The Umbrella interagency agreement (IAA) with CDC allows USAID to access technical expertise from CDC. The IAA supports activities in Infectious Diseases, including tuberculosis. This project funds a CDC assignee based at WHO/SEARO to support TB-control activities in India and, specifically, for technical assistance to the Government of India’s Revised National TB Control Program (RNTCP), with a focus on improving TB-HIV collaboration and MDR/XDR TB treatment services. The project developed national indicators and targets for the scale-up of collaborative TB-HIV activities. National TB-HIV Technical Working Group endorsed these indicators and targets, and incorporated into the national Guidelines. CDC-IAA has developed a statistical model to estimate burden of HIV among TB patients.
