USAID Recognizes Corporate Water Conservation

NEW DELHI | November 30, 2007

Today at the Green Business Center in Hyderabad the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) joined with the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) in awarding 20 private companies the "National Award for Excellence in Water Management 2007".

The two day event at which the winning companies were selected from 74 applicants was organized by CII – Godrej GBC with financial support from USAID as part of the Indian Business Alliance on Water initiative. The applicants cumulatively saved over 50 million cubic meters of water in the past three years.

14 companies were selected for their efforts in conserving water within their facilities. Six companies were recognized for their leadership in implementing water and watershed management projects with the involvement of public and private agencies and the community. The USAID-initiated Indian Business Alliance on Water promotes best practices in water management in partnership with CII, UNDP and the World Economic Forum.
