Ambassador Llorens Recognizes Renewable Energy Initiatives

As an incentive to promote Honduran efforts in renewable energy and in support of the USG Renewable Energy Strategy, Ambassador Llorens presents the first “Ambassador’s Environmental Awards.” The awards acknowledge the efforts of those who have made outstanding contributions to promote renewable energy in Honduras.

USAID nominated two of the three award recipients based on ongoing project collaboration in the energy sector. The USAID candidates receiving awards were: Zamorano University President, Kenneth Hoadley, for the creation of the Biodiversity and Renewable Energy Center, and Mr. Moises Starkman, Presidential Advisor, for his support for policies to develop biofuels in Honduras. The Mesoamerica Energy Company received the third award for their Cierra de Hule project, the second largest wind project in Latin America.

USAID will continue to work with these and other people and organizations on the promotion of renewable energy in Honduras. In his remarks, Ambassador Llorens reiterated the USG’s commitment to support renewable energy in the hemisphere and the clean energy revolution that will address the challenges of global climate change.
