Cooperating to Save Cyprus' Water

November 10, 2010

The AKTI Project and Research Centre and the Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Environmental Engineers are working together to save Cyprus' dwindling water resources.

The AKTI Project and Research Centre and the Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Environmental Engineers are working together to save Cyprus' dwindling water resources. Between December 2010 and June 2011, the two organizations will—together—raise the Cypriot public's awareness about water scarcity and introduce ways to save water in the home and workplace. Launched under the auspices of the Environment Technical Committee working to improve quality of life issues on both sides of the Green Line, the water saving campaign is supported by USAID through the UNDP Action for Cooperation and Trust program. Over 50 water stakeholders attended the November 10, 2010, launch of the campaign and will cooperate in island-wide efforts to decrease the amount of water wasted each day, month, and year. ‘We aim to reduce water consumption by changing user behavior and adopting simple solutions with major impact’, said the TCCEE coordinator Funda Zaim at the event organized at the J.W. Fulbright Center in Nicosia's Buffer Zone. More information on water saving and on how to get involved in the Campaign is available from: www.akti.org.cy and www.ktcmo.org
