Legislative and Public Affairs Internship Opportunities
The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) is the lead agency for the U.S. Government providing economic development and humanitarian assistance to people around the world. By creating the conditions to help countries move from poverty to prosperity, we serve both the American public and millions of people living in developing countries, countries affected by natural disasters and countries in transition.
USAID’s Bureau for Legislative and Public Affairs (LPA) is responsible for all of the Agency's external affairs and provides overall coordination for all aspects of legislative and public affairs matters for the Agency. LPA directs the Agency's communications strategy and policies; is responsible for communicating positioning, messaging and branding; develops outreach and educational programs; leads the Agency's online marketing strategy and manages the external website; and produces events and promotional products to generate support for USAID's mission.
In short, LPA serves as the liaison between the Agency and American people,
Congress, the media, and the Agency's other key constituencies.
Interns should specify their preference to work in one of four areas:

Congress and their respective staffs, assisting with analysis
of federal legislation, attending Congressional hearings, research,

editing for USAID publications, mainly FrontLines,
USAID’s monthly newsletter;
- Special Events and Protocol: assisting
in the production of ceremonies and
events; and

office, social media and public engagement teams on telling
our story to the media and various USAID stakeholders.
