Through the Justice Sector Development Program (JSDP), USAID helped create the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council and the State Ministry of Justice from scratch, endowing these new institutions with core organizational structures and developing their capacity to fulfill their roles established by law. The Governance Accountability Project helps local governments to enhance their administrative/management systems, improve customer service profiles, and strengthen their common voice through association building. CIVIL SOCIETY    

Sustainable Development of the Non-Profit Sector in BiH

This project creates an enabling framework for sustainable development of the NGO sector through partnership with the government at all levels and full local ownership. Civic Advocacy Partnership Program II

This project utilizes the skills of civil society organizations to increase civil society engagement in BiH constitutional reform, anti-corruption efforts, public funds administration, and unemployment of marginalized groups.  Through the 2010 Civil Society and Media Election Project, implemented under CAPP II, the project also supports the promotion of issue-based policies relevant to voters in the 2010 elections campaign. Support to Media Sector Project

Srebrenica Dialogue Center Project

The Srebrenica Dialogue Center builds upon the successful work of the Nansen Dialogue Center (NDC) Sarajevo, and serves as a forum for inter-ethnic community initiatives for students, parents, business leaders, municipal officials, and others in the Srebrenica region. Choosing Peace Together Project

YouthBanks

The project will facilitate youth conflict resolution and transformation through the establishment and strengthening of YouthBanks, whose objective is to enable mixed ethnic and gender youth groups to participate as active citizens in their multiethnic communities. Youth Building Futures in the Brcko District

The project aims to increase social trust between Bosniaks, Serbs and Croats through shared efforts to improve communities in Brcko District. This project will engage 240 unemployed, out-of-school, disadvantaged, 16-to-28 year old women and men in an intensive hands-on program to create tangible community assets such as renovated homes, community play areas, public gardens and microenterprises, while practicing skills for responsible citizenship, productive employment and healthy family life. YBI’s partners in this project are two local NGOs; PRONI Center for Youth Development and Center for Sustainable Development (CSD).

Constitutional Reform in Bosnia and Herzegovina: Engaging Civil Society -

Implementer:  Public International Law & Policy Group (PILPG)

Public International Law & Policy Group (PILPG) program aims to provide a broad spectrum of BiH civil society leaders with the legal and technical support necessary to engage the national government in the critical process of constitutional reform. This program calls for a series of complementary people-to-people activities aimed at building consensus on constitutional reforms among a broad range of civil society leaders and then preparing those leaders to engage with the BiH government on constitutional reform. The proposed activities include: (1) an assessment of the current Constitution’s effectiveness, including community outreach meetings to evaluate public opinion; (2) workshops on comparative constitutional analysis, consensus-building, and legislative drafting; (3) negotiation simulations on the process of constitutional reform; and (4) scenario planning exercises to prepare civil society leaders to engage in vigorous, effective advocacy efforts in favor of constitutional reform.

Assistance Program for Released Personnel from the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina

Implementer: Organization for Migration (IOM)

This program helps the resettlement, into civilian and economic life, of persons who are going to be discharged in the course of the defense reform process over 2010 to 2012. The program will assist up to 600 affected personnel through vocational training, tools, local development and community needs. The reintegration process will cover three main areas: Education to include specialized courses/re-qualification; Business/Self Employment, including trades, crafts, and other manual labor; and Employment/Job placement. This program will also provide the BiH Ministry of Defense staff with an opportunity to start concretely implementing resettlement programs and will strengthen their capacity to carry out resettlement initiatives. The project will place strong emphasis on civil society efforts to advocate for greater accountability of political parties and their elected leaders.
